The Virgin River that runs through southern Utah offers a unique beauty that often gets overlooked. St George has taken great strides to see that this get’s remedied by creating beautiful paths and bike trails the travel along the banks of the river, and have gorgeous bridges that allow you to cross it.
During spring runoff you’ll be greeted by rushing waters as the snow melt off from the mountains, flood the river. There’s kayaking and tubing that’s available for those who are feeling a bit adventurous (most of that is done closer to Zion in Springdale). In fact several years back when the water was high my friends and I chanced the “mighty” Virgin River in our inflatable kayaks. And believe it or not it was a wild ride. It’s no Colorado River, but it offers a fun little escape for those looking for a little excitement in their lives.
If you get a chance, take the time to see just how beautiful the Virgin River is and can be. And if you do decide to tube or kayak it, make certain you talk to someone as their are places that you need to be aware of that have claimed lives. But all in all it’s a wonderful thing to see and experience.
