SOUTH RIM: From March 1 to December 1, Hermit Road and the road out to Yaki Point/South Kaibab are CLOSED to private vehicle traffic. You will need to ride a shuttle bus to access those destinations. Private vehicle access on these roads is permitted for vehicles with accessibility permits.

PARK SHUTTLE, SOUTH RIM
Grand Canyon National Park provides a FREE shuttle bus system on three routes on the South Rim: the Village Route, the Hermit Rest Route, and the Kaibab Trail Route. No tickets are required. Simply board the brown and tan or white buses at any bus stop marked with a bus symbol on the map. The shuttles provide transportation; they are not tour buses. You must get off the bus to see the canyon.Shuttle service is not available on the North Rim.The Hermits Rest Route is NOT in service between December 1 and February 28. During those three months ONLY, Hermit Road and the road out to Yaki Point/South Kaibab are open to private vehicles.Because most park shuttle buses are not yet accessible for wheelchairs, an accessibility permit can be obtained in the park at the the Entrance Gate, Canyon View Center, Yavapai Observation Station, and Kolb Studio for private vehicle use in shuttle-only areas. Accessible shuttles are available with a Golden Access Pass and 48-hour advance reservation (520) 638-0591Pets are not permitted on shuttle buses. Service animals for visitors with disabilities are allowed.The following map is available as a PDF file that can be viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you plan on printing the map, it may print faster if you download it to your computer.

Hermit Rest Route - This route operates from March 1 to November 30
Buses on the Hermit Road Route (red) operate on the following schedule:
  • about every 30 minutes from one hour before sunrise to 7:30 a.m.
  • about every 10 minutes between 7:30 a.m. and sunset
  • about every 30 minutes from sunset to one hour after sunset
Time to travel one direction: about 90 minutes if you do not get off the bus. The last complete loop leaves before sunset from the Hermits Rest Transfer bus stop. Outbound buses serve red bus stops on the map. Returning (eastbound) buses serve Hermits Rest, Mohave Point, Hopi Point, and the Hermits Rest Transfer bus stops only. Water is not available on Hermit Road except at Hermits Rest. Take a canteen with you.
Village Route - This route operates year-round
Buses on the Village Route (blue) operate on the following schedule:
  • about every 30 minutes from one hour before sunrise to 6:30 a.m.
  • about every 10-15 minutes between 6:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. (Oct and Nov)
  • about every 10-15 minutes between 6:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. (Dec, Jan, and Feb)

Time to travel the entire route: about 50 minutes if you do not get off the bus. Buses serve blue stops on the map, including (but not limited to) Yavapai Lodge, Maswik Lodge, Canyon View Information Plaza, and Yavapai Observation Station, but do not serve Mather Point.

Kaibab Trail Route - This route operates year-round
Buses on the Kaibab Trail Route (green) operate on the following schedule: about every 30 minute from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.

Late or early hikers may use the Grand Canyon National Park Lodges taxi service at 520-638-2631. Time to travel the entire route: about 60 minutes if you do not get off the bus. Buses serve green stops including Yavapai Observation Station and Canyon View Information Center.

CONCESSIONER BUS TOURS
On the South Rim, guided bus tours within the park are conducted by Grand Canyon National Park Lodges (Xanterra, a park concessioner). Call (303) 297-2757, FAX (303) 297-3175, or write Xanterra Parks & Resorts, 14001 E. Iliff, Suite 600, Aurora, CO 80014, or visit www.grandcanyonlodges.com. Visitors arriving in the park should go to the Bright Angel Lodge Transportation Desk (6am -8pm) or call (520) 638-2631 to make arrangements. Tours include: Sunrise, Sunset, Desert View Drive, and Hermits Rest Road. Tours are available throughout the year.

GRAND CANYON AIRPORT / TUSAYAN SHUTTLE
CASSI Tours (a park permittee) currently operates a shuttle service between Tusayan and the South Rim from May through October for a fee. Call (520) 638-0821. The shuttle leaves Grand Canyon Airport every hour on the half-hour and makes stops in Tusayan and at several locations on the South Rim. Check for updated shuttle schedules at Grand Canyon Airport and the Backcountry Information Center.

RIM TO RIM SHUTTLE
A shuttle service is provided seasonally between the North Rim and the South Rim for a fee by Trans Canyon Shuttle (a park permittee). $60 one-way; $100 round-trip. Departs North Rim 7 a.m.; Arrives South Rim noon; departs South Rim 1:30 p.m.; arrives North Rim 6:30 p.m. Call (520) 638-2820. Reservations required.

TAXI SERVICE
Taxi service is available on the South Rim 24hrs a day through Grand Canyon National Park Lodges,(520) 638-2822 or (520) 638-2631, ext 6563. From November through April, CASSI Tours also operates a taxi service, (520) 638-0821.

BUS SERVICE
Bus service between Grand Canyon Village (South Rim) and Flagstaff, Arizona is offered by Nava-Hopi Tours (a park permittee). Call (800) 892-8687, or inquire at lodge transportation desks for schedules. Greyhound offers service from Flagstaff and Williams, Arizona to points nationwide.

TRAIN
Grand Canyon Railway (a park concessioner) offers service between Williams, Arizona and Grand Canyon Village (South Rim). The Railroad Express offers bus service for people who only want a one-way trip on the vintage train. To ride on the train one-way in the morning from Williams, contact any lodge transportation desk within the park.
