In its August/September 2006 issue, Mother Earth News magazine tapped St. George, Utah as one of "12 Great Places You've Never Heard Of."
"If you could live anywhere in the United States, where would it be?" the magazine asks, and it suggests that "Chances are your ideal place would have beautiful scenery and recreational opportunities; civic pride and a healthy economy" along with an environmentally aware community.
St. George definitely fits that mold as it has "lovely red scenery," warm winters, and close proximity to Zion National Park. Another great amenity is Snow Canyon State Park just to the northwest of the town that has scenic trails that showcase the area's gorgeous desert features and even a little history. This allows people to enjoy recreational activities like hiking, biking, and horseback riding throughout the year. Further, more than 10 public and private golf courses that offer a wide range of amenities from -- training facilities to GPS equipped carts to gourmet food -- bring golfers throughout the year since sometimes they need a game of golf during the winter.
The town is also very family friendly as it has several interesting museums. Notable sites are the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm that showcases dinosaur tracks and fossils found there, the Rosenbruch Wildlife Museum that has exhibits about the animal life that lives in the area, and the Zion Human History Museum in the national park that has exhibits about the ancient Indians and other inhabitants in the area.
