Baker
With an area of 63 acres and 20 feet as
an average depth Baker Reservoir is a small
lake off the Santa Clara River. It is four
miles north of Veyo on SR-18. Many people
enjoy camping at one of ten campsites and
fishing here. There are also picnic areas
and vault toilets. Rainbow trout and contains
brown trout, green sunfish, crayfish, redside
shiner, and mountain sucker are regularly
stocked in Baker Reservoir. There is no
boat ramp and a usage fee.
Enterprise
Here in the Bull Valley Mountains (ten miles
southwest of Enterprise) are two reservoirs.
Upper Enterprise Reservoir is the larger
of the two because is about 250 acres and
an average depth of approximately 50 feet.
In contrast, Lower Enterprise Reservoir
is 79 acres. Many people come to these reservoirs
to fish, hike, camp, and boat. The Honeycomb
Campground near both lakes has 21 campsites
and flush toilets. Upper Enterprise Reservoir
has a boat ramp, and there are several fishing
areas around both reservoirs. The reservoirs
are regularly stocked with rainbow trout
and smallmouth bass here. Fees are charged.
Gunlock
Created in the late 1960s, Gunlock Reservoir
was built to help control Santa Clara River
irrigation and flood water in Gunlock State
Park. At two miles long and half a mile
wide with the deepest point of 115 feet,
Gunlock Reservoir is a quaint play spot.
People like swimming, power boating, and
fishing here. The Utah Division of Wildlife
Resources stocks the reservoir with many
types of fish including: largemouth bass,
black crappie, threadfin shad, and channel
catfish. Camping is allowed; there are a
few amenities. Gunlock Reservoir is south
of the town of Gunlock.
Kolob
Kolob Reservoir is very scenic with the
surrounding mountains and aspen forest.
The aspen forest is possible since it is
at an elevation of 8,118 feet, and it does
get snow and ice during the winter. However,
this adds to the beauty here. In the summer
many people come to fish, boat, and picnick
while the water is too cool for many swimmers
and water-skiers. Kolob Reservoir is stocked
with brook trout, cutthroat trout, and rainbow
trout. During the winter many people enjoy
snowmobiling and cross country skiing. A
portion of the road leading to it is unpaved
and difficult to traverse during the winter.
The reservoir is about 20 miles north of
Virgin.
Pine Valley
Near the Pine Valley Recreation Complex,
Pine Valley Reservoir is a beautiful place
for to fish for brook trout and rainbow
trout. The recreation complex has over 150
campsites with restroom and picnic facilities.
Pine Valley is greener than most of Southwestern
Utah with pine and pinion trees, and many
people come to camp and hike here. It is
west of Central.
Quail Creek
Even though Quail Creek Reservoir has a
short history, it has a troubled past. Just
four years after completion of the dam,
it broke in 1989 on New Year's Day and flooded
homes in Bloomington. It was not until 1991
when repairs to the dam were completed.
Quail Creek and the Virgin River feed this
40,000 acre reservoir in Quail Creek State
Park. There are 23 camping sites with modern
facilities including flush toilets, drinking
water, and picnic areas with pavilions in
the park. People enjoy swimming, boating,
and fishing here. Fishermen will find rainbow
trout, bluegill, channel catfish, crayfish,
and largemouth bass in the reservoir. Quail
Creek Reservoir is located 14 miles north
of St. George near Interstate 15.
Sand Hollow
The recreational haven of the Sand Hollow
and Sand Mountain has attracted people who
ride 4-wheelers and mountain bikes for a
long time. Since April 2003, when the state
park officially opened a reservoir, people
now enjoy boating and swimming here. People
also like to fish its sizeable populations
of bass and bluegill. Sand Hollow now is
an oasis in the beautiful red desert of
the St. George area. The reservoir is located
about 15 miles east of St. George.
