Rock Climbing / Rapelling

The Cedar City area abounds in rock climbing opportunities. Many favorite local climbing spots have catchy names, including the Vermillion Castle up Parowan Canyon (UT 143), “The Cone,” eight miles west of Cedar City on UT 56, as well as “The Bowling Alley” and “The Olympic Slab,” up Cedar Canyon (UT 14) two and 10 miles, respectively. For the best information on area climbing and climbing gear rentals, visit The Mountain Shop, located at the south end of Main Street. The shop also rents equipment for practically every type of southern Utah adventure, including canyoneering, kayaking, camping, backpacking and cross-country, telemark and downhill skiing.
